Crusaders Respond With Narrow Victory over Trojans

Box Score After falling to the Trojans of the University of Mount Olive yesterday, the North Greenville Crusaders were able to respond this afternoon with a 71-66 win in Mount Olive, North Carolina. Jalon Cokley provided the late-game heroics with a clutch three pointer to give NGU a lead that they would not surrender. Cokley ended up leading the team in points with 14 including North Greenville's final six points of the game.

Recap
  • Mount Olive jumped out to a 9-4 lead early on. Jalon Cokley responded with a dunk to get the Crusaders going on offense. After a layup by UMO, the Crusaders would score six in a row to take a 12-11 lead. NGU's biggest run would come soon after, a 16-0 run that included two three pointers by Mason Zick and a dunk by Samson Mack. The Trojans would close out the half with the final six points, but North Greenville still took a 37-28 lead into halftime. NGU shot an impressive 60.9% from the field for the half.
  • UMO continued to cut into the deficit in the 2nd half, eventually pulling within a point with five minutes remaining in the game and tying the game at 57-57 with 4:06 left in the game. NGU would lose the lead for a short time, but would get it right back with three pointers by Jacob Redding and Kameron Hobbs. Mount Olive would respond with five straight points to regain the lead, but Jalon Cokley would take care of things himself, ending the game with six straight points including a clutch three pointer and three free throws to put NGU ahead for good.

  • Jalon Cokley led North Greenville with 14 points. He also tied C.J. Jamison for the team lead in rebounds with 5.
  • Kameron Hobbs finished just behind Cokley with 13 points, 2 assists, and a steal.
  • Tracus Chisolm also had a solid game, scoring 12 points with a rebound and an assist.
